You reminded me of a method I have used on occasion that worked
really well. Once I was suddenly asked to combine my class with another
class (on Sunday) of Young Women when a teacher was absent. And many of
these young women would definitely not want to participate in any way at any
time. So I quickly made up small slips of paper, and numbered them, one for
each student. Every one drew a number out of a bowl, and I began my
lesson. I asked #1 to do the opening prayer, and since everyone was looking
at her, and it was obvious that everyone was going to be called on, she
actually did it. Then on I went, and it just happened to work out perfectly
that everyone got called on for something, including the closing prayer. If
it becomes accepted that everyone has to participate, it seems to make it
easier for the reluctant ones to step up.
