Since I am a graduate in Theatre I had thought of doing the very same thing,
however, because of time constraints I am following the ideas in the Video
Guide...which I also liked. I am cramming it into one day since our local CES
Office has issued their own pacing guide and we are only allowed one day for
the Plan of Salvation Lesson.
My initial ideas were something like this:
I thought I would give the kids tickets for the "production" sometime before
Seminary started (I was thinking the Sunday before) with time and seat
numbers and the title of the production....you know, all the stuff that is on the
ticket. It also becomes your invitation to attend Seminary.
My program was going to incorporate one of the pictures in the Lesson Manual
illustrating the Plan on the front. The program itself is easily put
together...just use one of the programs you have rec'd from a play you have
attended and follow it-- Title: The Plan of Happiness (or whatever you
choose)---Written by: Heavenly Father, Directed by: Jesus Christ, Cast of
Characters: Along with the Hero--the Savior and the Villain--Satan you could list your
Seminary Students, along with "A Cast of Millions". Act I -- Premortal Life,
Act II Mortal or Earth Life, Act III Eternal Life.
Since a lot of play programs include little paragraphs about the cast I
thought I would incorporate that as a "get to know you" as well.
Advertisements could include messages from Pres. Hinckley or the Bishop etc.
about the importance of Seminary with pictures.
Ushers...could be the Bishop and his counselors or a parent or two. Seats
numbered according to the tickets.
Refreshments served after production.
On the back of the program...a list of upcoming productions for the New
2006-2007 Season:
The First Vision
Scripture Mastery
The Kirtland Period
Nauvoo
The Trek West
I'm sad now that I've put this all together I didn't go through with
it...but I have an elderly father I'm caring for and there just never seems to be
enough hours in the day.
