I know this may come across as rude or hard hearted,
but....  when it ocmes to seating....these ARE high
school aged students.  Let them sit wheee they
want...Then, and here is where you may think I am
rude...If there are some students who have a problem
sitting together, be adult about it, have them stay
after class, and discuss it with them!!!!!  Give them
an opportunity to adjust their behavior.  This way you
are earning their respect.  If there is a clique
forming, put them in groups for an activity and just
break it up for the day.  My experience has been such
that this approach works.  I believe in treating them
as young adults.  Students will only rise to the
expectations we place upon them.  They will also
behave the way we treat them.  If you haven't tried
this approach, I strongly reccomend it.....
