[Teachldsseminary] Teach: Classroom Seating

I take the time to observe students for the first two weeks before putting them in groups, tribes, companies, etc... That way I know what will probably work out best in regard to personality, chatting issues, strengths, etc. Then I have them sit at the tables in groups any way they like. I like it this way as they don't feel as if they are being strictly placed and yet I do have some control in my ability to manage the class. On occassion I will have "open seating" which they love, where they may sit where ever they like. This also signals to them that things are going well in class without my needing to say anything. They realize it is a reward. I do change up the groups during the year.
