Relief Society is the adult women's organization of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. It is the largest and oldest women's organization in the world! All women 18 and older belong to the Relief Society. Relief Society consists of:
- Sunday Instruction - In each congregation the Relief Society meets for 50 minutes each Sunday for spiritual instruction and fellowship. Curriculum for lessons comes from the Melchizedek Priesthood & Relief Society Lesson Manual, the current Conference Report, and other topics determined by local leaders to meet the needs of the local congregation.
- Home, Family and Personal Enrichment program - weeknight activities held at least quarterly, and more often to meet the unique needs of the women in that congregation. Activities include classes, speakers, service projects, dinners, and special groups with common interests and needs can organize and meet according to a flexible schedule.
- Visiting Teaching program - organized so that pairs of women are assigned a group of sisters whom they visit individually each month in their homes to give a spiritual message, build bonds of sisterhood and assist in any way that is needed.
- Compassionate Service program - a leader organizes aid for local members in need, such as women who have just had a baby, are moving, have an illness, have a funeral to plan or other pressing needs.
- Welfare - the Relief Society President assesses needs for welfare aid of local members.
- Humanitarian Aid - the Relief Society reaches out beyond the local congregation needs to assist in communities near and far who are suffering from disasters and want, providing emergency essentials of all kinds.
- Preparedness - the Relief Society organizes opportunities to build home storage supplies in preparation for any of life's temporal challenges, be they unemployment, illness, disasters or unexpected challenges. Local resources such as canning facilities and equipment and group purchasing of bulk food and supplies assist families to follow the Lord's counsel to be prepared.
