A very popular thing to do this week of the year is have an activity, either scripture mastery or lesson oriented, with a Super Bowl theme. Here are several suggestions from the Filing Cabinet:
Seasoned teachers know that one of the most challenging months is February; commonly known for the wintertime blahs. To your students (and teachers alike), Christmas break is was a long time ago and Spring break seems looks "forever" away. Here are Bro. Holder's Frost Fighters: several ideas and/or Filing Cabinet links with ways to overcome the cold, snow, and darkness here in the northern hemisphere. Those down south, file these ideas away for July/Aug...
We recently passed a Filing Cabinet milestone; 4500+ articles online and more than 2700 downloadable files to go along with the articles. Tim is close to finishing the task of adding Margene Von Forell's DC lessons; only about ten more to go and this year is complete. It is important for us to point out that Margene's lessons should not be wholly substituted for what is in the current manual; however, there are many object lessons, activities, and games aligned with your manual, which you can use to augment or juice up your classroom presentations. Just remember, "If 'telling' were 'teaching,' we'd all be so smart we couldn't stand ourselves." (Mager)
Do you need help catching up or jump starting scripture mastery in your classroom? We have several packages available, with or without two music sources, to get you going. Both offer some significant savings over purchasing the included items separately:
We might also suggest a subscription to Barb Gardner's Annotated Scriptures. You can gain great insight into your study and and lesson preparation with the convenient links to the Comprehensive History of the Church. Here's a comment from a recent subscriber: "Every time I use the Annotated Scriptures I think, "Wow--this is so great! I really should let the author know." So here it is--a very big thank you for all the loving time you put into this wonderful project. I'm involved in seminary and I also teach Gospel Doctrine, so I'm looking forward to using the A.S. this upcoming year in Sunday School." Finally, please consider submiting your best “Beat the February Blahs” idea! Reminder: there are seminary classes being taught all around the world, some in the most obscure and remote places. Your idea could be a scripture mastery game, object lesson, devotional, teaching tip, lesson quote or resource, or a complete Readiness /Participate /Application gem. Whatever it is, even if you used it several months ago, share it now. Someone, somewhere, sometime, will benefit from your willingness to share.
You can share in several ways:
Thanks in advance for your willingness to participate in this with all of the site community members.
That's all for now. Continued good luck with your teaching year!
