Dear {$user.name_f}:

We are frequently asked by we charge a subscription fee to access some of our content areas when much of it is given to us freely. The answer is two-fold:

  1. Providing and maintaining a site like Latter-dayVillage is not trivial. We outgrew the capability of any free web host years ago; we are located hosted on our own dedicated (lea$ed) server in a secure Dallas, TX data center. This ensures our data is safe, secure, and available 24x7x365 for our many visitors. LDV consistently ranks in the top 100,000 web sites on the Internet (compared with Yahoo's #1 and Google's #2), more popular than almost any other LDS resource outside lds.org (ranked 2,210 today). Consquently, Debra and Tim work at this full time; it's our livelyhood. Our original work is the structure and maintenance of the site resources.
  2. Not all of our content is free, much of it is licensed; meaning we pay an author, artist, or provider for the right to resell or distribute their work. These costs are passed on through our membership subscriptions, similar to Deseret Book's online LDS Collector's Library or GospelLink subscriptions. We ALWAYS try to maximize the value we provide for your hard-earned dollars. Also, to ensure our new subscribers satisfaction, we always offer a free one week trial.

We thank our many paid subscribers and shopping cart customers who fund our ability to provide FREE content and email lists to thousands of other Internet visitors.

Update! Annotated Scriptures Preview

We announced in our last newsletter a new subscription service we are preparing; Barbara Gardner's Annotated Scriptures. Barbara has added some of the Doctrine & Convenants version, which is cross-referenced (linked) to the Comprehensive History of the Church and other sources. You can preview the Annotated Book of Mormon, Four Gospels, and the D&C for the next two weeks. See the LDV Annotated Scriptures Home Page for more details.
