Primary Ideas Galore

I just want to remind you that there is so much fun and helpful information in the Primary Knowledgebase for nearly every aspect of Primary - some of the best ideas have almost never been viewed, according to statistics.  I invite you to take few minutes to go through the categories and articles to glean some fresh ideas for whatever aspect of Primary you are involved in.  If you don't have a subscription and have always wondered, we created a screen shot of the Primary categories in the Knowledgebase that you can take a look at without a subscription - http://latter-dayvillage.com/pages/PrimaryCategories.htm  - These are just the main categories. They each may have many subcategories, but it gives you a little idea of what is included.  Two timely things I'd like to point out are the sharing time ideas for 2006, and lesson helps for each CTR and Valiant lesson as we go along - I hope you will check them out. If you do not have a subscription, you can try the knowledgebase for one week free. Go to your membership page to sign up.

LDS.ORG

Did you know that the church music site now has all the sheet music from the church magazines organized and available?  http://www.lds.org/cm/display/0,17631,6497-1,00.html - Not to mention the Hymns and Children's Songbook songs that can be downloaded in audio files or played using the interactive music player.  This is a tremendous resource - http://www.lds.org/churchmusic/0,17932,4586-1,00.html

Primary General President Pre-conference Open House address from Sept 2005 was rebroadcast on BYU TV http://www.byutv.org/ - on Sunday June 11.  The best part is, you can view it right on the internet - click on the "Streaming" link in the left hand column menu, and go into archives to find it and view it at your own convenience.  It is very inspiring.

2007 Primary Content

I am working on the material for the 2007, I'll Follow Him in Faith.  Stay tuned!

Agel at LDV

Recently, Latter-day Village joined a new company called Agel® that you might be interested in.  We had such a positive impression of the company and what it is doing that we got on board . . . read my letter of introduction at: http://latter-dayvillage.com/agel/debra.htm

Seminary Corner

Ready for the D&C?

Now is the time to begin preparations for the coming D&C Church History curriculum. The D&C category in the seminary filing cabinet is the most diverse, including content from the 1998 and 2002 teaching years. If you do not already own a subscription to the filing cabinet, subscribe now to get the full benefit of the following:

  • 300 Scripture Mastery games, activities, and memorization ideas
  • 800+ D&C object lessons, activities, lesson block ideas, and themes
  • Almost 400 teacher resource articles, covering everything from attendance, discipline, classroom organization, teaching techniques and more.
  • MarGene Von Forell lessons and activities; these are included in your membership subscription. MarGene's complete lesson plans complement the lesson manual and include years of experience teaching the Doctrine and Covenants. We loaded one of her D&C lessons in the sampler, including graphic attachments so you can see for yourself. These are worth the subscription fee alone.
  • More ideas to come: we added over 500 articles during the Book of Mormon year alone.

Annotated Scriptures

New this year and a sure hit for seminary teachers; Barbara Gardner's Annotated Scriptures. This yearly subscription resource is perfect for the D&C year. Here's what Barbara says about her annotated D&C:

"In creating the Annotated Doctrine and Covenants I wanted to create a three-dimensional view of these modern day revelations. By having the first six volumes of the History of the Church, with footnotes, I was able to create links between points in history and the coming forth of revelation. The Institute Manual sites quotes from The Teachings of Joseph Smith – I take you to the specific location within Church history where Joseph speaks -- leaving it up to you whether you want to read more on context, setting, etc. As you browse through the table of contents for each volume of the History of the Church you can quickly link to specific sections or scroll down to various treatises given by Joseph. Each volume is outlined by topic, date, and events with page numbers noted to allow you to quickly find information from a notation in other works.

"The biographies not only include background information on those individuals who played important roles in Church history but include links to their “parts” in this great panoramic history.

"The actual Sections have thousands of cross references to modern day prophets and present day applications – up to and including April 2006 conference. As each conference is given all of the Annotated Scriptures are updated to reflect the most current pronouncements of the General Authorities. In addition you will find artwork, charts and even PowerPoint presentations to make your lessons easier to prepare.

"But best of all – these can become YOUR annotated scriptures. If you would like to add a cross reference, whether it be an insight, General Authority quote or story, all you need to do is click on the “Annotations” button at the bottom of each page."
