It’s funny, but Tim and I both started on this path about the same time, nine years ago. I have many different interests and develop new ones on a regular basis, so for me to stick with something for nine years is truly a rare phenomenon. I think my interest in building an lds website has stayed strong, and grown, thanks to the constantly changing technology, which is interesting and challenging, and my need to make a difference for good - the best good I can imagine - spreading the gospel. Those things, combined with my insatiable drive for creative expression have made developing an lds website the perfect outlet for me. It has been fun. It has been rewarding. All it takes to make my day is to get a simple thank you from a visitor who has somehow been lifted by reading or using the information on the site.
Tim knows a lot more about the functionality of web programs than I do - and merging our sites has given me fun new tools for expression. He has had to be patient with me as I try to learn how to use all the bells and whistles - and loosen my attachment to outdated software programs that are like old comfy slippers to me.
WHAT ABOUT YOU?
But all the tools on the market cannot make up for human contribution. We know LDV could grow in so many ways, and while our imaginations run wild with possibility, bottom line is, it will take more than Tim and I have to give to really get any of these great new ideas out of our heads and into cyber-reality.
So if anyone has bothered to read this, and you are one like me who has a near-addiction to some aspect of living the gospel - mine was primary - and enough techno-aptitude to be dangerous - please drop us a line. Don’t be shy! I’ve had a number of people read my bio and write me, touched for some reason by my story - wondering how I have done some of the things I have done . . . and I think, wondering about their own potential to follow a dream, questioning their capacity or abilities, or wanting some guidance. I am thrilled to encourage people to pursue their dreams - and to work together if it is feasible.
We have ideas of what we are looking for, but, honestly, it is almost more important to develop an idea someone else is passionate about - I believe in giving people the resources they need to do what they do best and love most, rather than force them into a pre-defined mold. My dad did that for me, and I’d like to do that for others.
LDV PROJECTS
At LDV, I’m working on recording the Scripture Mastery Verses for the D&C in fun character voices - got some young new talent contributing to that project, a new Church History Felt Map, 2007 Primary Theme material and a hard copy book version of Prophets of the Restoration with illustrator Scott Jarrard. We are coordinating with professional scrapbook instructor, Elaine Wright to develop a new LDV Scrapbooking department. These along with all the ongoing projects the site demands are keeping me plenty busy.
What would you like to see at LDV?
Take care,
Debra
