Latter-day Village Square

Tim Holder, webmaster of Latter-day Village, passed away December 14, 2008 at his home in Gillette, Wyoming after suffering from deteriorating health for the past few weeks.

Tim, we know you are doing great where you are, but we are left with a huge hole here in your absence.

I don’t know if anyone had any idea just how devoted Tim was to this website, and how much it meant to him to be of service to our subscribers, customers and visitors.

One tiny bit of thanks went a long way with Tim, and so I thought it would be appropriate to set up this blog - I figure he has already figured out how to get online on the other side of the veil - and if he has better things to do, those of us left behind, his friends and family, can be comforted as we share our thoughts about Tim now.

Please add your comments.

I will post information about his funeral as well as the Tim Holder Memorial Fund which we hope to have set up soon.  This was an unexpected and unplanned for loss.  I am hoping to generate enough so his family can pay for the costs involved.

We love you Tim!

Debra

To Tim Holder’s family and latter-day village family, I too want to express my gratitude for Tim and his vision of bringing forth this website for all to participate in. I have been teaching seminary for only 3 years now and when I was told about this website my first year what a blessing. I have been able to see what the rest of the seminary world has done. I have been able to partake of others knowledge and creativity. We all have visions of what we would like to do but there are a select few that jump into that vision and make it a reality. What a wonderful gift he has given all of us in the various fields of church callings and I hope that the rest of you who have worked so closely with him and share the same talents that we all benefit from will continue on with Tim’s work.

To the family thank you for allowing Tim to spend the time to put forth this wonderful resource for the world to share. His insight and helps tell you what kind of man he was. He will be missed but he will not be forgotten by many around the world.

Just another seminary teacher forever greatful

Oh my word, I am so sad. I haven’t been a part of this group for all that

I, too, want to express my condolences to Debra and Tim’s family. I taught
seminary for 9 years before being released this past Spring but continue to
receive the e-mails and participate from time to time.

I was called the first time with only a one week notice and my CES was out
of town. It was through finding this e-mail list that got me started on how
to teach from the scriptures. It changed my teaching habits and my own
insight into the scriptures accompanied by my studies.

Over the years, I have shared and gotten great insights from others that
have enhanced my lessons and made my seminary classes so successful. I do
not have the knowledge to do a website but Tim was great and he always
answered questions and problems. I know he never got the money out of what
he put into it but did it more as a service to all of us.

I am sorry for this loss for everyone who uses the site but know he was a
great man and will be welcomed into the spirit world. It’s times like that
that our knowledge of the plan of Salvation and the eternities is a real
    comfort.

I’m dismayed to hear of the loss of our Webmaster. This wonderful teaching aid web site has served me so well for many years now. Unfortunately I was not aquainted with Mr. Holder personnally but by his emails and lesson helps I feel his loss as a close friend. The support of this web site has given me both comfort and inspiration as I teach the gospel. I’m thankful for his creation and hope the tools are in place for it to continue. May God bless his family in his absence.

    Dear Debra,

Please accept my condolences, and pass them on to Delores and the Holder family.

I was on Tim’s team at NETdelivery. Tim’s old boss from NETdelivery

    Debra,

You do not know me. I was a friend of Tim Holders. I considered him one of my few and best friends.

I received the news today in a round about way, which is how I got your e-mail address.

The job I have (the last 4.5 years) is the direct result of Tim’s help and recommendation.

Please keep me up to date as you learn further details.

I would also like to get a phone number so I can call Dolores. All I have is Tim’s cell number.

I know I speak for all of the seminary teachers in the Tokyo South Stake, when we send our condolences to Tim’s wife and family. He worked tirelessly and helped so much whenever I had a question or was a technical dummy. The website has been invaluable as I have taught seminary over here without a lot of resources. I will miss him and his sense of humor. We pray for his family and hope the comfort of the Holy Ghost is with you always.

My prayers are with the Holder Family and with Debra who also needs our thoughts and prayers. God Be With You Till We Meet Again Tim.

A big thank-you from the seminary teachers in Georgia who have used this website. One of the most exciting aspects of the gospel is the worldwide family we share even if we never meet in person. Hopefully Tim’s family will find comfort from knowing he was so respected by many internet friends.

I just received the news in my inbox. I gasped and then the tears came. I only knew Tim thru the Seminary Files, but I am so grateful for his vision and foresight to use this miraculous technology to bless so many lives so far and wide. And I do mean far and wide. I became an early morning Seminary teacher in 2004, the same year my mother and step-dad were called to a CES mission in Vladivostok, Russia. As new as I was as a teacher, I was still able to feel “put together” with the help of this site. So much wisdom on how to manage Scripture Mastery, unruly teens, how to bring the scriptures to life and to apply them. And by finding this help, I was able to share it with my mother, who was in far flung Siberia (literally), with no resources (not even Bibles for each student during the New Testament year). So, when we say Tim blessed many, many lives, he truly did that, worldwide. We never know how much impact our efforts have as Seminary teachers, though, after 4 years, I do have students coming back from missions and getting married who have graciously shared what an difference Seminary made to them, and I can’t take credit for that without acknowledging those who contributed to this site and to Tim for creating it. May we all hug our families a bit tighter and say the things that we have put off saying to thank those who help us.

Dear LDV, Tim Holder will be so missed. I think of all the great Seminary games that my students just adore - March Madness, Don’t Melt the Snowman, etc.etc and the great ideas that he coordinates for all of us out here in the field. Thanks LDV and to Tim Holder.

My heart ached to hear the news about Tim, and I cried. He promptly tackled any questions or concerns I had over the past year and a half. Because of his efforts, LDV has been an invaluable tool for me while teaching early morning seminary. I visited it almost daily during my lesson preparation, and received the strength and help I needed. I will always be grateful to Tim. My heart goes out to his family, and to you, Debra. You are in my thoughts and prayers.

I first met Tim and Dolores at a Christmas party for NetDelivery. My husband, Dave, and Tim worked together there. Dave commented often about Tim being a gentle man and a hard worker. A few years later I was asked to teach seminary, and fell onto the LDV site. What a wonderful surprise to make contact with Tim again. Tim’s foresight and energy to share seminary resources with so many people was inspired. Not only CES teachers have been touched, but thousands of youth and young adults.

My heart goes out to his wife and family at this time. I pray the Lord blesses them with comfort and peace.

Please let Dolores and the kids know how sorry we are and that they, too are in our thoughts and prayers here in Berthoud.

Thank you again, for all you do.
